Community Organizer

Part-time | Start Date: ASAP |  $20 per hour

We're seeking a Community Organizer that is committed to community building, leadership development, and overcoming social inequities. The Community Organizer develops and sustains a base of resident leaders, working to advance their skills and political consciousness, increase their understanding of issues and the landscape surrounding our policy campaigns, and grow as effective, collaborative advocates for systemic change. This position is ideal for a creative leader who inspires collaboration, is not afraid to innovate, and thrives in a collective, non-hierarchical organization.

The Community Organizer will: 

  • Plan and facilitate meetings with resident leaders, teams, committees, and interns. 

  • Plan and implement activities and campaigns to build and exercise grassroots power.

  • Cultivate relationships with community members, partners, allies, and stakeholders. 

  • Gather research for campaign development.

  • Prepare and publish materials for social media, fliers, posters, etc. 

  • Develop and manage project schedules and work plans.

  • Maintain records and project documentation. 

  • Represent Buen Vecino at community events, with policy makers, and media.

  • Assume other responsibilities as prioritized by the organization.




  • Commitment to social, economic, and racial justice. 

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required. 

  • Outgoing personality, comfort working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.

  • Familiarity and understanding of Simi Valley and issues facing city residents.

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cooperative team. 

  • Social media and digital communication skill and savvy. 

  • Previous leadership and experience in organizing, advocacy, and communications preferred.

  • BA is preferred, or current college student.

  • *Residency in Simi Valley strongly preferred.

This is a remote position, involving virtual team meetings, and travel for in-person gatherings when it is safe to do so.
